Unstructured Play
At Lure of the Wild, children are free to come up with their own activities, all day long. Kids are naturally creative, and unstructured play is vitally important for their developing minds and bodies.
Nature Connection
Using all of their senses to explore the woods, our campers develop a love for the natural world that plants the seed of guardianship and responsibility for open space and natural resources.
Child-Led Learning
At Lure of the Wild, we create an environment where children can thrive through self-driven exploration and learning.
Fully Outdoors
Playing in the woods allows campers to face small, self-regulated challenges that lead to a strong sense of personal accomplishment and resilience, rain or shine.
Small Groups
We limit group size to twelve campers, and even fewer for our youngest campers. Our camper to staff ratios are even smaller at six or eight to one.
Gentle Guidance
Our dedicated staff of highly trained childcare professionals gently guide campers to connect deeply with the natural world and discover their own resilience.
Positive Discipline
We help children work through conflict resolution so they can develop the skills they need for working together, self-regulating, and solving problems themselves.
Supportive Staff
We work hard to recruit and retain the most qualified counselors possible. Our counselors typically have academic or professional history in child psychology, education, or medical fields. Together with our partners, we build the next generation of conservationists by activating each child’s natural sense of wonder.
Mixed Ages
Blending children of different ages benefits both older and younger children. Developmental Psychologist Peter Gray explains here.
Growing Comfortable
Stepping outside of our comfort zones is how we grow and learn. At Lure of the Wild, we support our campers as they try new experiences and build confidence through personal challenges.
Technology-Free
Kids need to connect to the real world, and one another, in real, tangible ways. Our vigilant, skilled staff are available throughout the day to share texts, photos, and other updates so your child can focus on the fun.
Committed to You
Your level of comfort is as important as your child’s. We’re here to help. If you have a question or need, we’re always available to talk.
