Lure of the Wild is a fully-outdoor day camp operating in the public and private woodlands of Central Maryland. Our state-certified program uses the power of play to help children grow naturally, with careful observation and minimal adult intervention.

About the Job

The Assistant Site Director supports the Site Director and Camp Director in planning and executing the yearly camp program. This seasonal role requires 40+ hour work weeks during spring break and summer camps, and provides key support for staff, campers, and their families.  Occasional hours outside of camp may be available


 

Key Responsibilities

      Camp Operations Support
      • Assist in planning and implementing daily camp activities.
      • Ensure smooth operations during spring break and summer camps.
      • Manage schedules and logistics for camp staff and campers.
      Staff Supervision
      • Support staff in their roles, including training, mentoring, and daily guidance.
      • Assist in implementing health and safety protocols.
      • Foster a positive and inclusive camp culture for both staff and campers.
      Family Communication
      • Act as a point of contact for camper families, ensuring timely and professional communication.
      • Help distribute daily updates and coordinate parent interactions during camp hours such as early pickups and late drop-offs, emergency response, and occasional follow-up outside of camp hours as needed.
   
      Health and Safety
      • Work with the Health Supervisor, Camp Director, and Site Director to implement the Health and Safety Plan.
      • Assist in responding to emergencies following camp policies and guidelines.

 

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in childcare, camp operations, or a similar leadership role.
  • Knowledge of child development and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Clear criminal background check.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Preferred: Emergency medical training.

 

Salary and Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $20–22/hour.
  • Work Schedule: Seasonal during spring break and summer camps.
  • Professional Development: $500 annual Continuing Education Stipend plus registration expenses for 1 professional training per year.
  • Paid Holiday Time: July 4th
