Nature Camp Site Director

Lure of the Wild is a fully outdoor, child-led nature camp where children build resilience, confidence, and judgment through autonomy, exploration, and real experience in the natural world. Our staff lead through calm presence, sound judgment, and thoughtful response rather than constant direction.

We are seeking a Site Director to lead one camp location in Catonsville or Roland Park, and steward its safety, culture, and team development.


Role Overview

The Site Director provides day-to-day leadership of a camp site, working closely with the Camp Director, staff, families, and land partners to ensure a safe, stable, and philosophy-aligned season.

Schedule

  • Spring pre-season: 10–15 hours/week (late Feb–May)

  • Camp season: ~50 hours/week (June–early Sept)


Key Responsibilities

  • Model calm, judgment-based leadership in dynamic outdoor environments

  • Recruit, mentor, and support staff aligned with child-led philosophy

  • Lead parent communication and site partnerships

  • Oversee site operations, budget, supplies, and documentation

  • Implement health and safety procedures in accordance with Maryland regulations

  • Support staff development and maintain a strong team culture


Qualifications

  • Minimum three seasons supervising children with safety responsibility

  • Strong comfort working outdoors in variable conditions

  • Experience mentoring or supervising adults

  • Alignment with free play and emergent learning philosophy

  • Reliable transportation and interest in returning across seasons


Compensation

  • Starting rate $24–$27+/hour, overtime eligible

  • $500 annual continuing education stipend

  • Opportunities for off-season work and returning staff incentives
