Get Inspired

Lure of the Wild is a fully outdoor, child-led nature camp serving children in Catonsville and Roland Park. We’re looking for calm, capable people who can support children’s growth through freedom, observation, sound judgment, and meaningful outdoor experience

Who Thrives Here...

Our work is deeply rewarding.  But it’s not for everyone.

  • children are outside all day in all weather
  • staff respond thoughtfully rather than directing experiences
  • adults must tolerate uncertainty and noise without becoming controlling
  • judgment matters more than performance
  • staff are expected to notice emotional/social dynamics quietly and early
  • kids climb, build, get muddy, take risks, and solve problems

What We Believe About Children

  • Children develop confidence through real experience
  • Curiosity is inspired, not forced
  • Outdoor play builds resilience and judgment
  • Adults should observe carefully and intervene sparingly
  • The natural world is unscripted

GITs (ages 14 to 16) receive a full campership for their participation. They may also receive an end-of-season Leadership Recognition Award acknowledging participation, growth, commitment, and contribution to the camp community.

Returning campers who are at least 13 years old can participate in our Junior GIT program and receive reduced tuition.

Both programs require an application and interview, and are subject to space availability.
